The landscape of building safety has undergone a significant shift, demanding heightened accountability, transparency and expertise.
In response to this, BSR recently hosted a series of free webinars, to equip more than 1,300 stakeholders from almost 800 organisations with knowledge and tools to navigate the new regulatory framework.
From Principal Accountable Persons (PAPs) and Accountable Persons (APs) to commercial clients, principal contractors and building control professionals, the BSR webinars provided invaluable insights, practical guidance and access to subject matter experts.
The series addressed critical aspects of building safety, focusing particularly on Building Assessment Certificates (BACs), large-scale remediation and regulation of the building control profession.
With hundreds of participants attending each session, the webinars served as a vital platform for knowledge sharing and open dialogue.
Demystifying the Building Assessment Certificate (BAC) process
The first two webinars focused on BAC applications, catering to both experienced and less-experienced PAPs and APs, including Resident Management Companies.
Recognising the diverse needs of stakeholders, BSR offered tailored sessions to ensure everyone had support to prepare robust applications when called to do so.
Sessions delved into the assessment process, outlining the criteria assessors would focus on and providing practical guidance on preparing applications to the required standard.
Participants gained clarity on how their applications would be evaluated and who would be involved in the process.

Navigating large-scale remediation and refurbishment
The third webinar addressed challenges faced by commercial clients undertaking large-scale remediation, refurbishment and new build projects for higher-risk buildings (HRBs).
Tailored for commercial clients, principal contractors and principal designers, it focused on building control approval applications and the importance of anticipating completion certificate requirements.
Participants gained a deeper understanding of necessary documentation and processes, enabling them to prepare comprehensive applications to meet BSR standards.
The session emphasised the importance of considering completion certificate requirements from the outset, ensuring a smooth and efficient approval process.

Addressing domestic client building works in HRBs
The fourth webinar addressed specific challenges faced by PAPs and APs for building work carried out in individual apartments within occupied HRBs.
This session provided practical advice on fulfilling duties and ensuring compliance with building safety regulations.
Participants learned about the definition of building work, requirements for building control approval applications and the duties of APs and residents.
The session also highlighted the role of the resident engagement strategy in facilitating effective communication and compliance.

The final webinar in the series focused on regulation of the building control profession, providing an update for Building Control Bodies and Building Inspectors.

Participants gained insights into BSR inspections, investigations and areas where improvements are needed. The session also promoted sharing of good practices to foster a culture of continuous improvement within the profession.
