Video transcript: Free building safety training available

Hi, I’m Andy McGrory, Policy Lead for Resident Matters at the Building Safety Regulator.

We are really happy to announce the launch of a free online training programme developed in partnership with and hosted by The Leaseholder Advisory Service or Lease for short.

The training is specifically aimed at the directors of thousands of Resident Management Companies, Right to Manage schemes and commonhold associations for high rise buildings across England.

The role of resident directors is absolutely crucial to upholding the highest standards of building safety.

We recognise that these directors are volunteers, laypeople often with no technical or housing management expertise, who are having to navigate the complexities of the Building Safety Act, along with their other responsibilities and legal obligations.

As such, we have identified a need for further guidance to help this audience understand what is required of them.

This training directly addresses that need. The introduction to the Building Safety Act 2022 for Resident Directors Course provides the information that this audience needs to help understand their responsibilities.

It covers important topics like the role of the Building Safety Regulator, the duties of Principal Accountable Persons and the critical Golden Thread of information.

It also explains key requirements such as the Safety Case report, the Resident Engagement Strategy and the Mandatory Occurrence Reporting System.

The course has been designed with the audience in mind, making it accessible and user-friendly. Takes around two hours in total to complete the four bite-sized modules.

Our goal is to help resident directors ensure they have robust building safety measures to understand their responsibilities, to be intelligent customers when they need to secure assistance from third party providers, and ultimately to ensure residents feel safe and are safe in their own homes.

Providing this additional training for resident directors is a vital step towards creating a safer built environment for everyone.
